Tennessee Army Wife Battling Cancer Gives Birth To Quadruplets (Photo)

Kayla Gaytan, 29, was constantly itching so she went to the doctor to figure out the cause was, but nobody could figure out the source. Then after seeing several specialists, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, an aggressive form of cancer.You can imagine they were devastated by the diagnosis, but knew they had to move forward with their life.

She started chemotherapy, every other week. Then after five months of chemo, Kayla’s doctors told her that her cancer appeared to be regressing, but did break the news that it was unlikely the couple would be able to have children.

A month after completing her chemotherapy treatment, You can imagine their surprise when they found out Kayla was pregnant with four babies.

After learning the exciting news, Kayla says her goal was to make it to 34 weeks.

“My original goal to make was 34 weeks because I figured if I could beat cancer, surely I could … make it to 34 weeks with quads,” Kayla told WLEX. “I just kept trying to tell myself that I could do that.”

Sadly, at 28 weeks, a biopsy confirmed Kayla’s fears and suspicion: The cancer had returned. After finding tumors in her lungs and decided that they should move up the delivery date.

Kayla at 30 weeks, delivered her four babies by Cesarean section,two boys and two girls, all weighing between 2 and 3 pounds. According to WLEX, the babies are all in the NICU and the mother says they are doing well.
Now, with her newborn babies doing well, Kayla is preparing to battle cancer once again. She hopes to beat the odds and watch her babies grow up. Doctors say she has a 50/50 chance of living another five years and Kayla is not ready to give up the fight.

“It would be so easy for me to go sit in a corner and cry all the time and be upset that all this is happening,” Kayla said in an interview on the “Today Show.” “But I think of my amazing family that I have and the support I have around me and that really helps me get through every day.”
